Cannabis Biochemistry
This course explores the biochemical foundations of Cannabis sativa, focusing on the synthesis and function of terpenes and cannabinoids. Students will analyze terpene and cannabinoid nomenclature, chemical structures, and biosynthetic pathways, gaining understanding of how these compounds are produced and regulated at the genetic level. Topics include the evolutionary purpose of terpenes in plant defense, common terpenes and cannabinoids found in cannabis products, and the biochemical distinctions between cannabinoids and varins. By the end of the course, students will be able to interpret the molecular mechanisms driving cannabis compound production and their implications for cultivation and product formulation.
