This course explores the complex genetic interactions that drive cannabinoid and terpene biosynthesis in Cannabis sativa. Students will examine the role of cannabinoid oxidocyclase genes in cannabinoid synthesis, as well as the structural and genetic similarities that influence their function. The curriculum covers Mendelian inheritance as applied to cannabis genetics, along with advanced genetic concepts such as pleiotropy and epistasis, highlighting how multiple genes interact to shape cannabinoid and terpenoid production. By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze gene-compound relationships and apply genetic principles to cannabis breeding and cultivation.
