Sequencing and the Cannabis Genome

This course explores sequencing methodologies used to analyze the Cannabis sativa genome. Students will compare the advantages, limitations, and applications of Sanger sequencing, Illumina sequencing, PacBio, Ion Torrent, and Oxford Nanopore (MinION). Key genomic concepts such as genome assembly, genetic mapping, and sequence analysis will be covered, along with the structure and function of the nuclear genome, repetitive DNA content, and maternally inherited genomes. By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in genomic sequencing and its role in cannabis research, breeding, and product development.
